Radical Activism and the Future of Animal Rights

ANIMAL RIGHTS NATIONAL CONFERENCE
Last week, thousands of animal rights activists converged on Arlington, Virginia, for the 33rd annual Animal Rights National Conference. Over 90 presenters from 60 organizations discussed strategies central to the goal of reducing animal exploitation. The event garnered scant coverage from the mainstream press—always does—but it nonetheless brimmed with a rare kind of selfless ambition coming from very decent people who want animals to be treated with a modicum of dignity.

While the media paid little attention, there’s no doubt that meat industry moles were trolling the halls of the Hilton with their ears pricked for the merest mention of an idea that might pierce the brainbox of a public so culinarily apathetic that, to date, it has voluntarily consumed seven billion cans of Spam. Mass consumption of a gelatinous rectangle of a ham-like product reflects a collective unthinking decision that the industry wants to protect with every cynically contrived resource at its disposal.

Interesting article about the future of animal rights advocacy. I invite you to take a read and tell me what you think the future holds.  What sort of activism do you consider legitimate and what line would you never cross no-matter what?

Please share your thoughts and any intriguing ideas you believe are worth testing to determine their efficiency and effectiveness!

Keeping Wild Animals as Pets

Do you believe that we should keep wild animals as pets?  What is the allure for you or the fascination?  Do you honestly...deep down in your heart of hearts think that it makes these animals happy?

Many people are aware of the fact that you can have a variety of different exotic pets, but most think of snakes and lizards when they think of exotic pets and when they think of more exotic animals like tigers and lions or zebras, they think of zoos and wild animal parks.

But, did you know that in the United States you can have just about any type of animal you want under the right circumstances and depending on what state you live.  Except for California that is...they are the most hard core when it comes to their laws on the books.  But, I digress.

Exotic Pets Headquarters (EPH) has many different exotic pets for sale and they are not alone.  You can find all sort of different monkeys for sale on sites like Hoobly or Craigslist.  Those looking for reptiles, snakes and other creepy crawler creatures will find Kingsnake pleasing to the eye.

It is amazing how many other websites you can find from other classified ad webpages, breeders or pet store owners.  It is hard to believe there are that many people out there looking for capuchin monkeys, finger monkeys, zebras and alligators. It is surreal. Yes..there is a website called ZebrasRUs.com!

Welcome to When Animals Speak

Welcome to my blog called "When Animals Speak"!

My goal is to give animals a voice and present a viewpoint from the perspective of animals.  This will include themes along the lines of "Love me...don't eat me!"
